021013: Sophisticated Sunday

Happy Lunar New Years, y'all! In the spirit of New Year's, I felt a little festive and decided to deck out in some red. I went into the little itty bitty details too-the buttons on the blazer are red as well!

I have this unhealthy obsession with BLAZERS. They just make a whole outfit instantly sophisticated! I came across this one not too long ago, and I fell in love with its details. You can't see it, but the trim on the collar and the pockets are made of velvet. I feel super elegant and old school with it. Now you know that I also have an unhealthy obsession with little details...yikes.

Vintage patterned blazer--Garage Sale: $1
Forever 21 deep red dress--Forever 21: $10
Black patterned leggings--Again, I found this randomly in my closet...I bet my mom put it there.
Connie Wingtip Oxford Heels--Ecothrift: $10
Coach black hobo bag--Mom's closet: FREE
Total: $21, Price Per Wear (PPW): ~$4

My ten cents #7: I feel like this is redundant, but it's so important that I need to reiterate: HAVE AT LEAST ONE BLAZER IN YOUR CLOSET AS AN ESSENTIAL. Blazers are not expensive if you look for them! They instantly make your shabby look into something sharp. I love putting them on when I'm having a bad day because I can look good without putting in the effort. This works for both genders, so you don't have an excuse! ;)

020813: Fab Friday

It felt like a Lands' End-type-of-day. As you all know, I love layering and here is my simple approach to a sophisticated look with a dash of girlyness. Just for clarification, the PPW of this outfit is a wee bit more than usual because I paired it up with this specific crossbody. This crossbody holds a special place in my heart because of the story behind it. To sum it up short and sweet, my mother pushed me to buy it and for those who know my mom, I definitely got my frugal personality from her; however, she thought I deserved it. We are not fortunate enough to splurge on a lot of things, but when it's affordable, my mom wants the best for me. <3

Adding a little "pop" into an outfit really makes a difference. In this case, the lace and bows are the little "pops." The lace trend has been one of my favorites! It's classy and really fun.

Lands' End navy blazer--Garage Sale: $0.50
Lands' End blue button up--Thrift Town: $3
DKNY grey cropped long sleeve--I honestly don't know where
and how much I got this for. I just found it in my closet...
BEBE black denim pants--Aunt's closet: FREE
Fioni black lace mini heels with bows--Ecothrift: $3
Dooney & Bourke crossbody--Garage Sale: $30
Necklace--Garage Sale: $1.25
Total: $37.75, Price Per Wear (PPW): ~$10

My ten cents #6: Although I stress frugal finds, I think it is okay to splurge once in awhile and make an INVESTMENT in something. Depending on what you can afford, it is okay to spending a little more than usual on an item just as long as you do not use the same principle for all of your purchases. Your investments will definitely pay off in the long run with their price per wear!

020713: Thrifty Thursday

Oh my, my last post was in January...I apologize once again for being so behind. Please blame organic chemistry for me, but I have alas finished my first round of midterms, and the second round starts next week. Eeeeeek. This outfit is a recap of my most recent visit to a thrift store--the 99 cents sweater event at Thrift Town...woooot! I had only 30 minutes to shop that day because I had to head over to UCD, but I grab this baby in the process. In the spirit of Thrifty Thursday, I pieced my favorite finds from the thrift store except for the crossbody; I have yet to thrift a handbag.

I realized that I never take a picture of my shoes, which is always my favorite part of an outfit. I believe there is no such thing as TOO MANY shoes. See, with clothes, you can layer and make it completely new. You can't really layer on shoes... -____- Of course you can match different pairs with different outfits, but at the end of the day, that pair is a purple open toes wedge. Okay, my logic might not be on point this time, but I don't think I should ever put a buying-shoes-ban on myself. ;)

 Collar button up vest--Ecothrift: $1
Vintage patterned sweater-jacket (Swacket?)--Thrift Town:$1
High-waisted denim shorts--Ecothrift:$1
Fioni purple open toes wedge--Ecothrift: $3
BCBGeneration brown crossbody--Garage Sale: $3
Total: $9, Price Per Wear (PPW): ~$3

My ten cents #5:  BIZARRE IT UP. TAKE A RISK. TRUST YA INSTINCTS. To be completely honest, I was on the fence about the sweater-jacket. I loved the mixed colors and patterns on the back, but I felt like the flowers in the front was too wacko for me. I went shopping with my brother, and I couldn't stop asking him if it's weird, yet I did not have the heart to put it back. I eventually went with my gut feeling and splurged a dolla for it and now I love it. It's weird enough to accurately describe my taste, but it's not inappropriate.
